About the Orchestra
The Hibernian Orchestra is one of Ireland’s leading voluntary orchestras, bringing together musicians who share a love of classical music and a commitment to performing it to the highest possible standard. Founded in 1981, the orchestra has grown into a vibrant ensemble with a rich history of concerts, collaborations, and musical milestones across Dublin and beyond.
The Players
The orchestra brings together players from a wide range of musical and professional backgrounds, creating an ensemble that is both strong and open in spirit. Some members are teachers, some are students, some are pre-professionals, and others pursue music alongside different careers, but all are united by a shared sense of purpose and enjoyment in making music together.
Our Conductor
The Hibernian Orchestra is led by John Finucane, whose musical experience and leadership help shape the orchestra’s sound and standards. After twenty-five years as Principal Clarinet of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, he brings authority, insight, and deep musical understanding to the role.
Our Repertoire
The orchestra’s repertoire is broad and varied, ranging from Baroque works to newly commissioned pieces. This variety allows the orchestra to offer audiences familiar masterpieces as well as fresh musical experiences, while also giving players the chance to explore music across different styles and periods.
