About The Orchestra

The Orchestra has a demanding schedule based on weekly rehearsals between September and May/June. The Orchestra performs in Dublin and elsewhere throughout Ireland. Its repertoire stretches across the musical spectrum, ranging from early works to newly commissioned pieces.

The Orchestra has enjoyed over 30 years under the baton of its conductor and musical director, John Finucane.


The list of artists who have performed with The Hibernian Orchestra is impressive, and features many of Ireland’s most distinguished virtuosi. Former soloists include Finghin Collins, Philip Martin, Michael McHale, Martin Johnson, Michael d’Arcy, Cara O’Sullivan, Helena Wood, Mia Cooper, Christopher and Anthony Marwood, Claudia Boyle and Patrick Rafter.

The Orchestra is also committed to providing a platform for young soloists through its annual Concerto Competition.
